Hong Kong's first long-running musical, 'Our Youth Diaries', with script, music, lyrics, direction and production by Chan Yan-shek (Tom), is about to proudly surpass 700 performances. To bring more freshness and surprises to the audience, Tom specially invited several cross-industry artists to make guest appearances, receiving praises from all walks of life. Among them, Voice Entertainment singer Windy Cham, who played the young Yan Lai-ching, stood out with an impressive performance. Tom, who is good at uncovering actors' potential, decided to invite Windy again to return to the stage of 'Our Youth Diaries', daringly portraying Nancy, a character that is loved and hated by the audience, for a limited run of 16 performances from 21 August to 28 September. Tickets are now on sale.
The first performance with Windy taking on the leading role of Nancy was successfully held on the evening of 21 August to a full house. The role of Nancy is eye-catching and layered, with a large number of singing and dancing scenes, which is quite challenging for the actor's singing, dancing and acting skills. After undergoing special training from Tom himself, Windy broke free from her usual good girl image, showcasing her charisma in the singing and dancing performances as well as her delicate emotional scenes. She brought to life the passionate and fearless sides of Nancy, leading the audience through joy and emotion, interpreting the struggles and losses of a young girl facing academics, love and family. The audience responded enthusiastically with continuous applause and cheers, witnessing Windy's successful premiere and wishing her continued success in the remaining performances.
Windy Cham said, 'Thank you to all the fans and friends who came to support me, and especially to Tom for his recognition and guidance! I still remember when I watched 'Our Youth Diaries' before, I was so touched that I cried, and I really hoped to be a part of it. In March, when Tom invited me to guest star in two performances, it felt like a dream come true. I never expected that he would invite me again to play one of the leading roles, Nancy, which was beyond my wildest dreams, and of course, I agreed immediately! In fact, portraying Nancy is definitely a challenging self-breakthrough. Previously, I only appeared as the young Principal Yan for about ten minutes, but Nancy is the soul of the entire play, appearing throughout the nearly three-hour performance and requiring a high-energy state. I am very grateful to Tom for his thoughtful guidance, helping me interpret the script and smoothly immerse myself in the character, inspiring me to imagine different scenes and pay attention to every detail, clearly expressing my inner feelings to the audience and presenting a more three-dimensional portrayal of Nancy, a character that is loved and hated."
Chan Yan-shek said, 'Nancy is one of the most popular characters in 'Our Youth Diaries'. She has a love-driven brain that makes her fearless in pursuit of love, but she also has a princess personality that demands that boys give in to her every whim, and it is not easy to portray her with such a range. Windy, who came from a singing contest background, can easily handle pop songs, and her dancing skills are also quite strong. Her previous guest appearance as the young Principal Yan was already impressive, and she has an extremely high learning ability and performance quality that suits the musical stage very well. After interacting with her, I also discovered that she definitely has the potential to portray Nancy, so I boldly asked her if she would like to take on the challenge, and she readily agreed. I would like to specially commend Windy for her dedication and hard work in the short few weeks of rehearsals, and she has already achieved such a high level of performance. Today, I saw her completely let go of her inhibitions and fully immerse herself in the role, presenting the results of her rehearsals. I am very happy for her. Counting down, Windy is actually the tenth actor to play Nancy, and she has also shown her unique style. The stability and ease of her first performance made me applaud enthusiastically, and I believe that the upcoming performances will be even more brilliant. I sincerely encourage everyone to buy tickets to support Windy's version of Nancy, it's definitely worth watching!"
